Samsung Galaxy phones use AMOLED displays, which give deep blacks and vivid colour. When part of the panel's internal wiring fails, a single straight line of pixels can light up green, pink or white. Some owners notice it after a drop, others after the phone gets warm or following a software update.
Quick checks
- Restart the phone and see whether the line remains
- Take a screenshot: if the line is missing from the screenshot, the fault is in the panel
- Check for pending software updates in Settings
- Boot into Safe Mode to rule out a third-party app
Why the line rarely goes away
Occasionally a line disappears after a restart, but in most cases the damage is physical, inside the display layers. Lines can multiply or spread over time, and the touchscreen above them may start to misbehave too.
